Production Planning in a Plywood Plant by Linear Programming Reasearch Problem
Thesis Abstract:
The study dealt with production planning by linear programming in a plywood manufacturing plant. The objective was to minimize the cost of production subject to demand, production capacity, inventory capacity and technology requirements.
Although the study was hypothetical in nature, the conditions could likely occur in a real world system. Under some assumptions in which linearization of the constraints was considered, the model could satisfy the following objectives of program planning: (1) minimizing production cost and inventory charges; (2) completing all orders on time; and (3) achieving an even distribution of workloads among all the manufacturing processes with smooth production rate over the planning horizon.
