The Impact of Integrated Pest Management Field Training Program on Rice Yield: A Case Study in Moyudan, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

(Indonesia), Master of Science in Agricultural Economics (Gadjah Mada University)

Abstract:

The objectives of the study were to determine the impact of the integrated pest management (IPM) field training on rice yield and to know the use of pesticides on IPM and non-IPM farmers. Primary data were collected by survey method from 60 IPM and non-IPM farmers during three planting seasons. Moyudan was chosen as the study site since this area is one of the potential rice bowls in Yogyakarta. Cobb- Douglas production function, income function, and t-test were used to analyze data. The results of the study showed that there was no significant difference in terms of productivity (yield) between IPM and non-IPM farmers. It seemed that the principle of IPM had been widely known among the farmers in the area even though they were not formerly trained on IPM. There was a significant difference in terms of pesticide use per hectare between IPM and non-IPM farmers, where IPM farmers used less pesticide than non-IPM farmers.
