Asset-based analysis of e-extension adoption among rice farmers in selected cyber communities in the Philippines
Dissertation Abstract:
The study was an asset-based community analysis of e-extension adoption among rice farmers in selected cyber communities in the Philippines. It was conducted in Batac, Ilocos Norte; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; and Magalang, Pampanga. The objectives were to determine the extent of adoption of e-extension among farmers; analyze relationship between the farmers’ assets and adoption of e-extension; and analyze the extent of influence of combined farmers’ assets as predictors of adoption of e-extension.
Results showed that adoption of e-extension among farmers was high and correlation analysis showed farmers’ assets associated with adoption of e-extension were as follows: availability of irrigation water; support of the members of the community and agencies providing interventions; political support; and perceptions on usefulness and potential of information and communication technology such as
cellular phones, desktop computers, radio, television, e-center, Rice Knowledge Bank (RKB), and Farmers Information Technology Services (FITS). Combined assets that influenced higher adoption of e-extension were support from PhilRice, local government units, and the community; and perceptions on the usefulness and potential of e-extension.
