THE Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) has forged an agreement with the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) as part of its advocacy to champion of excellence in agricultural and rural development in Southeast Asia. Glenn Gregorio, SEARCA director, said a memorandum of understating (MoU) was formally signed between SEARCA and IIRR represented by Emilita Monville-Oro, IIRR acting regional director for Asia and concurrent country director for the Philippines, in a virtual meeting last April 6. The government should lower the tax rate, of 26-27%, on non-life insurance, including that for crop or agriculture insurance, to around the rate on life insurance, which is 2%, according to Mr Jaime Aristotle Alip, chairman emeritus and founder of the country's largest microfinance firm CARD MRI (Centre for Agriculture and Rural Development - Mutually Reinforcing Institutions). “If you want private sector participation, you must level the playing field. A Filipino scientist was appointed as one of the new Champions of the United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021.
