Customized Trainings for SEARCA Scholars

Dates: July-September 2021 |January-March 2022

SEARCA, through the Graduate Scholarship and Institutional Development (GSID) Unit under the Education and Collective Learning Department, endeavors to strengthen the academic and technical skills of its scholars through the conduct of appropriate capacity building initiatives.

  • Basic English Course

    The Basic English Course for new scholars is one of the three regular trainings conducted annually to complement the scholars' studies. The course aims to enhance the incoming scholars' language proficiency, prepare them for their studies, and encourage them to be more comfortable with the English language.

  • Training on Writing Thesis and Dissertation Proposals

    The Training on Writing Thesis and Dissertation Proposals aims to build the capacities of scholars to do their research. It provides them with the basic principles such as identifying the research problem, finding credible references, writing their content, and presenting their proposals. The training consists of discussions, presentation of outputs, and critique of the scholars' presentations.

  • Training on Data Analysis and Experimental Designs

    The Training on Data Analysis and Experimental Designs is conducted for one week to discuss the design techniques for experiments, the use of survey questionnaires, methods of probability sampling for surveys, statistical analysis, and the use of infographics in data presentations. The training also includes workshops where participants are given exercises to apply the lessons as well as fieldwork at an experimental station. This training aims to assist scholars in developing a framework for their research and introduce them to the conditions where they will do their research.

  • Scientific Writing for Publication and Presentation Skills Training

    The Scientific Writing for Publication and Presentation Skills Training is offered for scholars nearing the completion of their degrees and aims to develop their skills in disseminating their research through publications and oral presentations. These skills are seen as significant in assisting the scholars after graduation and as champions of Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development in their countries and in Southeast Asia.
