Community forestry presents a promising approach to achieve sustainable forest management in Thailand. In 2000, the Royal Forest Department (RFD) formally promoted community forestry as a management strategy. About 9,015 villages covering an area of approximately 590,000 hectares were registered as community forests (CF). These CFs provide significant goods and services, as well as cultural enrichment, improving the lives and livelihood of the locals.
