THREE Filipinos were among those awarded by the German Embassy in the Philippines master's and doctorate scholarships to 11 Southeast Asians under the In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Program by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The DAAD is one of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture's (SEARCA) staunchest and longest partners in its human resource development program. Since 1975, more than 380 DAAD-SEARCA scholarships have been awarded, 90 percent of which have been completed. The newly appointed Director of the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) advocates the Center’s continuous support in strengthening the academe-industry-government partnership for agricultural development and fulfilment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Los Baños, Laguna—The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture and the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity have agreed to continue cooperating on programs that will mainstream biodiversity in agriculture. Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research and Agriculture (SEARCA) recently hosted a session on the regional implications of the Philippines' Rice Tariffication Law. The Research Symposium was part of the 11th World Rice Conference organized by The Rice Trader (TRT). Republic Act 11203, also known as the Rice Tariffication Law, has recently been passed in the Philippines with the purpose of lifting existing quantitative import restrictions on rice.
