THE Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) recently hosted a dialogue aimed at making the region's food systems stronger and more sustainable. Results of the "Breaking Silos: Transforming Agricultural Education and Research toward Sustainable Food Systems in Southeast Asia" dialogue will be used to inform the first-ever United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) in New York this September, SEARCA director Glenn Gregorio said. Singapore-based CropLife Asia, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting plant science, sees strong seed systems as key to attaining food security. The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop and promote cooperation on education, training, research, technology transfer, and agri-incubation for the Philippines and the rest of Southeast Asia. The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) has been tapped by the Research Institute for Asean and East Asia (ERIA) to develop the Asean Guidelines for the Utilization of Digital Technologies for Asean Food and Agricultural Sector, its news release said. SEARCA is expected to complete the guidelines in June 2021.
