LOS BAÑOS, Laguna – A Taiwanese visiting research fellow will deliver a special lecture on food security here on Jan. 23.

Shun-nun Chiang will talk on "From food security to food and nutrition security: How to rethink the linkage between malnutrition and the food system."

Chiang is a doctoral (PhD) candidate at the University of California, USA, and a visiting research fellow at the Philippine government-hosted Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) based at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

The forum is the Agriculture and Development Seminar Series (ADSS) sponsored by SEARCA.

The ADSS was launched more than a decade ago to encourage the presentation and discussion of development and research, as well as their implications for agricultural and rural development, SEARCA director Gil Saguiguit Jr. said.

"Through the ADSS SEARCA proactively contributes to have a vibrant scientific exchange within and even beyond the Los Baños Science Community."

Among Filipinos who have delivered special lectures in the ADSS were former Prime Minister Cesar Virata, former National Economic and Development Authority director general Gerardo Sicat and Cielito Habito, current Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno, former UP College of Law dean and now Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, Sen. Cynhia Villar, and Dr. Donato Antiporda of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
