SEARCA provides PhD scholarships

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna - Looking for scholarship that will enable you to pursue a doctorate (PhD) in a prestigious university in Southeast Asia?

You have until April 30, to apply for the grant being offered by he Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) hosted by the Philippine government, through the Department of Education (DepEd), in the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

SEARCA is the center of excellence in agriculture of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), an inter-government treaty body founded in 1965 to promote cooperation in science, education, and culture among Southeast Asian nations. Currently headed by Director Gil Saguiguit Jr., the center was established in 1966 to provide capacitybuilding interventions in agriculture and rural development in Southeast Asia through its scholarship, research, knowledge management, and shortterm, non- degree specialist training programs.

Eligible for the SEARCA PhD scholarship are staff members of government agencies or nonprofit, developmentoriented institutions or PhD students of agricultural universities in the 11 countries that compose Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

Priority, will be given to PhD students enrolled in the tertiary institutions that compose the SEARCA- initiated University Consortium for Graduate Education in Agriculture and Natural Resources in Southeast Asia (UC). The UC members are UPLB, Kasetsart University in Thailand, Univesiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), both in Indonesia.
