A three-day training-workshop on Writing Thesis and Dissertation Proposals was held on 2-4 August 2017. This was attended by 19 SEARCA Scholars who are in various stages of their thesis proposal writing.
The training aimed at increasing the capacity of the scholars to identify their research problems, find credible resources, and write their thesis proposals.
For this, SEARCA engaged the services of a pool of reputable communication and research experts from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), consisting of the Dean of the College of Development Communication (CDC) Dr. Ma. Theresa H. Velasco, who also served as Training Facilitator, and UPLB Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Dr. Serlie B. Jamias, Former UPLB Chancellor Dr. Luis Rey I. Velasco, Former CDC Dean Dr. Cleofe S. Torres, Associate Professor Dr. Ma. Stella C. Tirol, Assistant Professors Dr. Mildred O. Moscoso, Garry Jay S. Montemayor, and Hermilea Marie C. Castillo as resource persons.
The Training-Workshop on Writing Thesis and Dissertation Proposals is one of the three regular learning events organized by SEARCA’s Graduate Education and Institutional Development Department (GEIDD) for the Scholars, to include also the Basic English Training for New SEARCA Scholars, and the Training for Technical Writing for Publication in a Refereed Journal and for Presentation intended for those who are about to complete their degrees. Through these training-workshops, SEARCA Scholars are envisaged to be better prepared as they hurdle the challenges of graduate studies, and later assist them after graduation, as champions of Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development in their respective countries and in the region.
