SEARCA travel grantee's paper lauded in international irrigation congress

SEARCA travel grant awardee Dr. Mona Liza F. Delos Reyes presents her paper at the 23rd ICID Congress.

SEARCA travel grant awardee Dr. Mona Liza F. Delos Reyes' paper Modernization of National Irrigation Systems in the Philippines: Linking Design, Operation and Water Supply was selected as one of the best papers presented at the 23rd International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) Congress held on 8-14 October 2017 in Mexico. The paper will be featured in the forthcoming special issue of the Irrigation and Drainage Journal, ICID's flagship publication indexed in the prestigious Web of Science.

Dr. Delos Reyes is a University Researcher at the Land and Water Resources Division of the College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology, Institute of Agricultural Engineering, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). She co-authored her paper with Professor Emeritus Bart Schultz of UNESCO-IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, the Netherlands.

She obtained her degrees in BS Agricultural Engineering from UPLB, MS Applied Science Agricultural Engineering from Massey University, New Zealand, and PhD in Hydraulic Engineering-Land and Water Development from UNESCO-IHE Delft.

ICID has been organizing the International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage, its triennial event, since 1951. The 23rd ICID Congress, concurrently held with the 68th International Executive Council Meeting, drew a large number of participants. Over 830 delegates from 35 countries represented governments, academic institutions, research institutions, products and services companies, and international donor and funding institutions.

ICID is a leading scientific, technical, and non-governmental organization. It aims to stimulate and promote the development and application of engineering, agriculture, economics, and ecological and social sciences in managing water and land resources for irrigation, drainage, and flood management to achieve sustainable agriculture water management. It has been facilitating the sharing of experiences and transfer of water management technology through its network of professionals in 76 countries. Its membership, which includes the Philippines, covers over 95 percent of the irrigated areas of the world.

Dr. Delos Reyes participates in a working group session at the 68th International Executive Council Meeting.
