SEARCA, through the Education and Collective Learning Department – Graduate Scholarship and Institutional Development Unit (ECLD-GSIDU), will conduct an Online Training on Presenting Research for SEARCA Scholars on January 16, 19, 23, 26, and February 2 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM (GMT +8). The learning event is the final offering of a two-part capacity-building program on communicating scientific information to an academic audience. The first part tackled scientific writing for publications in August 2022. SEARCA invited experts from the College of Development Communication (CDC), University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB), to share their knowledge and expertise on disseminating research through various modes of presentation.
Thirty-three (33) scholars will join the sessions via Zoom to learn about the basic principles of audiovisual communication, producing a research presentation, identifying the audience, guidelines, and platform, writing a presentation script, designing effective presentation visuals, and recording a research presentation. As part of the culminating activity, the training program will organize a mini-conference for the scholars to directly apply what they have learned. The training topics respond to the scholars' preference and academic needs. In addition, the onset of the pandemic and ushering of the new normal provided the impetus for scholars to equip themselves with proficiency in communicating with the public, both online and offline.
As the scholarship provider, SEARCA supports research dissemination activities such as journal publications and presentations at conferences through financial grants and non-monetary benefits in the form of training programs to develop skills and build confidence. The Centre has been organizing training programs for scholars to help them accomplish their academic requirements and prepare them for their future roles as champions of inclusive agriculture and innovations for development. The Online Training on Presenting Research is just one of SEARCA’s annual offerings together with the Basic English Course for New Scholars, Training on Scientific Writing and Publication, Training on Research Designs and Data Analysis, and Training on Writing Thesis/Dissertation Proposal.
