“This is one of three workshops that we at the Graduate Education and Institutional Development Department (GEIDD) have decided to offer annually for our scholars, starting this year,” said Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, SEARCA’s Program Head for GEID.
In July 2015, GEIDD conducted an English training for its new SEARCA Scholars to help enhance their English communication skills, gain self-confidence, and be active in class discussions upon enrolment. Then in January 2016, the department rolled out the Scientific Writing for Publication and Presentation Skills training, this time, for its scholars who are at the tail end of their studies.
All these enhancement courses now form part of the SEARCA’s graduate scholarship program that would help scholars in their studies and enable them to “graduate on time,” stressed Dr. Cuaresma.
The training was conducted in tandem with UPLB’s Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension. Dr. Evelyn Mae T. Mendoza, Professor Emeritus served as the main resource person and was backed-up by a group of faculty members from UPLB’s College of Development Communication. The three-day training consisted of six modules that covered various stages of the research writing process, including presentation of the proposal.
Needless to say, all scholars found the training very helpful and agreed that the training will also benefit other SEARCA scholars in the future.
