SEARCA, DA-BAR successfully conduct back-to-back training on knowledge management

LOS BAÑOS, Philippines – SEARCA has successfully concluded the training courses on “Demystifying Knowledge Management (KM)” and “Knowledge Sharing for Your Work: Techniques and Tools for Project KM” which were attended by 24 participants from the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), DA Regional Field Office, DA Bureaus, and Attached Agencies. The training workshops, held last 13-17 April 2015, were implemented under the DA-BAR-funded project Capacity Development Program on Knowledge Management–Phase II.

Ms. Rita dela Cruz, Assistant Division Chief, Applied Communication of DA-BAR, presents the workshop outputs (blog) of each group during the training on Knowledge Sharing for Your Work: Techniques and Tools for Project KM.The first two days were allotted for the training on “Demystifying Knowledge Management (KM)” which focused on the foundational concepts and principles of KM in the agriculture and fisheries sector. Topics discussed include foundation and principles of KM; knowledge capture in the organizational, sectoral and personal level; documents management; and knowledge sharing and KM for the agriculture sector.

The remaining three days were allotted for “Knowledge Sharing for Your Work: Techniques and Tools for Project KM,” the highlight of which was the workshop on knowledge sharing through the use of social media.

The participants were divided into four groups to enable them to demonstrate knowledge sharing to external audiences through the use of social media networks, particularly blogging via WordPress, vlogging (video blogging) via YouTube, CoPs (community of practice) via Facebook Workgroups, and Tweets (online post consisting of 140 character or less) via Twitter. Dr. Alexander Flor, KM Capacity Development Expert cum Team Leader, served as the lead resource person, with Ms. Emely Amoloza as KM Training Facilitator, for the back-to-back courses. Ms. Julia A.
