SEARCA and WorldFish facilitate IBAMO's 5th Executive Meeting and Planning Workshop

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – SEARCA and WorldFish facilitated the Planning Workshop and 5th Executive Meeting of the Iligan Bay Alliance in Misamis Occidental (IBAMO) last 26 February 2014. The event was graced by Hon. Herminia M. Ramiro, Misamis Occidental Governor and IBAMO’s Honorary Chairman. She extended her deepest gratitude to the alliance and other supporting institutions who contributed unparalleled resources to realize and strengthen IBAMO’s undertakings and goals. The activity was also attended by IBAMO’s top executive leaders of its member municipalities, namely: Hon. Francisco T. Paylaga, Jr., Municipal Mayor of Panaon and IBAMO’s Chairman; Hon. Diego Ty, Municipal Mayor of Plaridel and IBAMO’s Vice Chairman; Hon. Estela Obut-Estaño, Municipal Mayor of Tudela and IBAMO’s Secretary;, Hon. Rosario Kais Balais, Municipal Mayor of Jimenez and IBAMO’s Treasurer;, and Hon. Cris Mahilac, Municipal Mayor of Sinacaban and IBAMO Executive Board Member.

Ramiro, Misamis Occidental Provincial Governor, delivers her welcome remarks during the IBAMO’s Planning Workshop and 5th Executive Meeting last 26 February 2014 at N Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City.The activity brought together local executives and officers from the different Municipal Agricultural Offices (MAO), Municipal Planning and Development Offices (MPDO), Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices (CENRO), Sangguniang Bayan (SB), Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Philippine Maritime Institute (PMI).

A workshop was conducted to develop and validate IBAMO’s plan and programs for CY2014-2015. Other workshop participants include IBAMO’s Technical Working Group (TWG) for the different committees in information, education and campaign (IECC), law enforcement (LEC), habitat enhancement (HEC), institutional capacity building (ICBC), and in monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

In the presentation of programs, different collaborative activities were highlighted by the different national government agencies in Region X, namely, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Tourism (DOT), and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). The Mindanao University for Science and Technology (MUST) also presented their related initiatives. SEARCA and WorldFish also shared the possibility of project endeavors for IBAMO that will form part of the Agri-Aqua System (AAS) Project of the WorldFish.
