Specifically, 15 executives, scientists, and specialists of the PCC led by its Director, Dr. Arnel del Barrio identified specific projects to strengthen (1) increasing productivity and reproductive efficiency of carabao for meat and milk; (2) improving quality of raw carabao milk; (3) improving milk handling, assembly, and distribution of live animals; (4) encouraging an enabling environment for community-based enterprises on carabao meat and milk; (5) processing; and (6) marketing.
This was the output of an integration workshop held 5-7 October 2015 in Makati City by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) as implementer of a few research and development (R&D) and technical assistance (TA) projects commissioned by the PCC.
The Integration Workshop drew insights from presentations on four PCC-funded initiatives, including: (1) a value-chain analysis study led by Dr. Flordeliza A. Lantican, (2) technical assistance on knowledge management led by Dr. Serafin D. Talisayon, (3) a carabao slaughter ban study led by Dr. Liborio S. Cabanilla, and (4) a study on ruminant and dairy industry situation in the Philippines led by Ms. Nenita T. Yanson.
In knowledge management, Dr. Talisayon and his team of experts also recommended a number of indicative projects for internal and external knowledge management at PCC, which will be integrated in the six bundles of projects drawn up by the PCC team.
