A total of 94 participants from the seven Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) in Nueva Ecija attended the training-workshop. Officials from DAR Provincial Office, headed by Mr. Borromeo Pascual, Chief Agrarian Reform Program Officer (CARPO), were also present during the event.
Major topics covered for rice include an overview of rice production and propagation techniques, growing methods, types of fertilizers, managing farm pests, organic farming, rice farming in relation to climate change, and farm mechanization. On the other hand, the training for vegetable production included topics on production in paddy field; pressing issues on vegetable production; and production management plan.
Dr. Ernesto Cayaban, Jr., University Researcher, Crop Science Cluster, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPB), served as the lead resource person for rice while Ms. Juanita Calibo, Researcher at the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), served as the lead resource person for vegetables. Dr. Cesar B. Quicoy, Farm Management Specialist, also discussed the Farm Management Plan. Professor Jimmy Williams, Project Team Leader, and Dr. Lucille Elna P. de Guzman, Crop Specialist, facilitated the activity. (Sarah Grace L. Quiñones)
