BANGKOK, Thailand – Eleven graduate scholars of the Upland Agriculture Fellowships Project of SEARCA and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada became the second batch of recipients of the English Language Course being organized by SEAMEO centers, SEARCA and Regional Language Center (RELC) in collaboration with Kasetsart University (KU), Thailand.

The training ran from 12 to 16 January 2015 at the Faculty of Fisheries, KU. Among the participants were five new graduate scholars of the project’s second cohort from Lao PDR and Myanmar. The 5-day course was a combination of English for academic purposes as well as practical speaking and listening exercises. Ms. Elsa Yow Mei and Mr. Peter Argeros of the SEAMEO Regional Language Center (RELC) served as the Resource Persons for the week-long training.

"English as a foreign language can be quite diffucult and so practice is the key," reiterated Ms. Yow during the training's closing program.

The English Language Course aims to enhance the scholars’ English communication skills (listening and speaking) and build their oral communication confidence before the start of their respective study programs. The first batch of SEARCA-RELC was in 29 July – 1 August 2014 at SEARCA, Los Baños, Laguna (see related news).
