SEARCA, in partnership with the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and Kansas State University (KU), will hold the second session of the E-Training on School and Home Gardens cum Biodiversity Enhancement (SHGBE) for Busuanga Island, Palawan that will be held via Zoom video conferencing platform on 23 July 2020.
The SHGBE online training successfully kicked off on16 July 2020 with more than 200 online learners composed of school officials and teachers, school program coordinators, parent representatives from selected elementary and high schools in Coron and Busuanga, Palawan; representatives of the local governments ofthese municipalities; and the private sector.
The second session will feature modules on key concepts relating to food and nutrition in the context of school and home gardening, malnutrition, food security, and home-based livelihoods. Moreover, it will also provide lectures on effective strategies for planning, monitoring, and evaluation of nutrition and other related indicators based on food security and nutrition conceptual frameworks. A situation analysis of the nutritional status of school children in selected schools and their families, as well as the assessment of their school-based feeding program will be tackled in workshop and plenary discussions.
Dr. Leila S. Africa, Professor and Director of UPLB's Institute of Human Nutrition and Food, College of Human Ecology and former study leader of SEARCA's School-plus-Home Gardens Project (S+HGP), will lead the session's training course lecture and workshop, together with the SHGBE training team.
SEARCA gears up in leveraging the delivery of this kind of online training courses and in strengthening online infrastructure for e-learning as part of its strategic thrusts under its 11th Five-Year Plan. The SHGBE online training shall be implemented every Thursday until 3 September 2020.
