19 SEARCA Scholars complete their degree program at UP Los Baños

A total of 19 SEARCA scholars are among the 256 graduate students of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) who received their degrees during the 42nd commencement exercise on 26 April 2014.

Of the total graduating SEARCA scholars at UPLB, 8 have completed their PhD degree programs while 11 finished with a Master of Science degree. The graduates are:

  7. Myo Win Maung, MS Environmental Science
  8. Nouansisavad Sombounsack, MS Animal Science
  9. Outhevy Vongmany, MS Environmental Science
  10. Peter James C. Icalia, MS Animal Science
  11. Stanan Phanapaipong, MS Extension Education
  12. Areerat Lunpha, PhD Animal Science
  13. Cherdpong Kheerajit, PhD Development Communication
  14. Emelyn S. Peñaranda, PhD Environmental Science
  15. Florante Victor M. Balatico, PhD Agricultural Economics
  16. Mac Nhu Binh, PhD Environmental Science

  18. Queenie Ann L. Curayag, PhD Food Science and Technology

In a simple send-off program for the graduating SEARCA scholars, Dr. Gil C. Saguiguit, Jr., SEARCA Director, reiterated just how proud SEARCA is of them for completing their degree programs. He likewise reminded the new graduates that their bond with SEARCA has not ended with the completion of their degree programs, as they are now part of the SEARCA graduate alumni, who have formed country associations in almost all Southeast Asian countries.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Cristeta N. Cuaresma, SEARCA Program Head for Graduate Scholarship said that the new graduates are likewise considered as SEARCA Ambassadors of Goodwill.

On the other hand, Mr. Stanan Phanapaipong, in behalf of the graduating class extended his gratitude to SEARCA for all the support that the Center has given from the start to completion of their study programs and assured the Center that they will do what they can to help SEARCA in its development agenda in the region.

Since its establishment in Academic Year 1968/69, SEARCA Graduate Scholarship Program has awarded 1,555 various scholarship grants to nationals of SEAMEO member countries.
